Great Granny Finished

Lots of photos, mainly because it was dark and really difficult to take one I liked, so you're getting the whole lot!This quilt is made from 9 12" blocks from the Great Granny Along that started last summer, the tutorial for the block is HERE.All the fabrics used are from a Curio jelly roll, with the centre squares and additional sashing pieces from FQs from the same line. I had quite a few strips left over from the blocks so I made scrappy sashing. I still had lots left so I've been using them as scraps for bees. The solid is Kona Natural. I'll let you into a secret- I ran out which is why I used those patterned fabrics in the sashing at the top and bottom.The backing is some dotty teal upholstery weight fabric. I know that's a strange choice but if used as a mat on the floor it makes it more hardwearing and it has softened up in the wash. This fabric is from a bolt that my friend Gina has and needs to use up, plus it was taking up a big space on my shelf so I'm being useful. It also meant I didn't have to buy backing fabric. It's probably a bit too matchy for my liking- I usually go for a modern pieced front and a crazy unco-ordinating vintage sheet backing... more on that when I finish my Rain Deer Limbo quilt.

There's no binding as I bagged this one out. It made it horrible to quilt but I don't like binding either so I think I just need to perfect my basting and somehow find a bigger floor to work on. Thankfully it's crinkled in the wash and the puffiness is much more under control!  This quilt is approximately 46" square so lap quilt size and not huge, but my rooms are pretty small! The quilting is a simple stitch in the ditch around the outside of the blocks and an inner echo square.That's a tick off the Finish-a-long list for quarter 1 before the end of January!
