I was told there'd be cake

Title inspired by this book which I read several years ago and think I can revisit as I've kind of forgotten it!Right so the cake then, yeah?

I't's supposed to be a red velvet cake but I really didn't think I needed to put in as much red colouring as the recipe said because I had mega potent, has-dyed-my-hands paste red. I was wrong, do as it says.

The recipe makes just enough frosting, if you like a whole load I'd suggest adding another 25% of all ingredients. I'm still not sure if I love cream cheese frosting or I think it's disgusting yet. And I used white wine vinegar instead of cider vinegar for the fizzy bit as that was all I had but it made no difference.

If I was going to make it again I would cover the cake with foil after 15-20 minutes of baking as the edges were a bit crispy which made cutting it a bit perilous and that's why mine leans like that tower wot is in Pisa.

Here's the recipe I used, have fun!

Oh and I'm starting my intensive skating classes tomorrow so if you don't see any blog posts from me for a while, it's because learning to stop still hasn't worked out for me and I've really done myself in on the boards this time (several attempts and buying my own skates hasn't helped, oh and I went to a class in Tamworth before but everyone else in the group got it straight away so I never did learn properly, I learned to do a small twirl though)...
