Quilt and Stitch Village

It sounds like the start of a joke, an Anglian, a Bristolian, a Yorkshireman, a Canadian and a Scot walk into a racecourse... By the way isn't it time there was a non-gender specific word for someone who comes from Yorkshire? I think so.So yesterday Ange, Reene, Susan, Katy and I went on the World's shortest road trip to the Quilt and Stitch Village show in Uttoxeter. Some of the quilts were fugly (OK quite a lot), so here's some photos of the nicer ones or where I liked the pattern but maybe not the fabrics, and some close-ups of the features I liked on quilts that weren't necessarily my style overall.DSCF5475DSCF5476DSCF5477This pixel quilt kicked Mr Fry's ass...DSCF5478DSCF5481DSCF5484DSCF5485DSCF5486DSCF5487DSCF5489DSCF5492DSCF5495DSCF5496DSCF5497If anyone wants any names, titles and stories for these quilts, I can try and find them in my programme. We recognised this one as being Katy Jones' Hexy MF...DSCF5491Of course my quilt was there (photo nicked from Susan on Instagram-@canadianabroad)- and even though it hung atrociously- despite my attempts at squaring it up-it was apparently the most examined quilt according to a woman who worked there...meandfryAnd Katy's  frankly MASSIVE Madrona Road quilt...DSCF5474And then eventually we got to Ange's which was with the DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH Amish quilts quite randomly at the other side of the complex...DSCF5494And I bought some swag, some of this will be a prize very soon for Giveaway Day next Monday (May Day bank holiday, woooo!).DSCF5500It was a really fun day, I don't know how we would have spent the 4-5 hour duration of our visit there without workshops, but somehow with enough gassing (and laughing at the solitary red pixel quilt with the awful thread colour) we managed it. And we went round the trade stalls twice, to make sure informed purchasing decisions were being made...And then because I don't hate brown and believe it has a place as much as any other colour (and some Instagram discussions that were going on between Susan, Ange and Hadley) I ended up being the butt of jokes about traditional fabrics and such. I'm going to make a modern BROWN quilt, that'll show 'em! I have got a design in mind actually, I just need a feature colour to go in the centre of all things brown. You know, cos I have enough time to make the squillions of ideas in my head that have been promised to magazines. I think a sewing week off work may be in order before the FQ Retreat.I've gone through the Modern Blocks book and lets just say there are a lot of brown blocks in there as examples so I think I'm in good company!
