Friday evening saw me finish up the Fryed Pixels quilt!It was washed and dried Saturday and apart from having to do a bit of hand stitching here and there to tidy it up and adding the sleeve on the back, it is what I call, finished.It looks better from a distance (not because the squares don't always line up, more because it actually looks like Stephen Fry from further back)...A close up of the dogwood quilting which I loved doing and love the look of too...The backing fabric is Pie Basket from Hope Valley by Denyse Schmidt and also a bit of that vintage yellow stuff. I pillowcase bound it so that there is no separate piece of binding fabric for a more modern finish and also it reminds me of a canvas print rather than a picture in a frame because of this.I must admit to have been inspired in part by the Ron Swanson quilt by Monica Solorio-Snow. I haven't made a note of the size of this quilt but it is definitely more than 40" wide and each square is 1" finished size. The piecing was done in blocks of 5x5 by adhering them to very light interfacing first and sewing in strips, there's a video of this and also my WIP stages if you search for "Fryed Pixels" in that box over there. I started it right before the New Year so it's over 2 months of work on my design wall (and am I glad to be sticking new stuff up on there!) and probably if you added all the stitching time together you'd be looking at 25-30 hours of piecing and pressing plus an hour basting (had to do it twice) and 4 hours for the quilting.Yeah!!!!
