Orange decking

I'm not so sure about this.... I'm hoping it grows on me.On another note, why is one of my conifers half dead and how can I fix it?Also something has eaten my marigolds, it appears to be of the rodent variety so I'm going to have to trap it/them.... and I quite like mice too :(
